Motivation and Discovery

By Dave Snowden  ·  November 29, 2013  ·  Diabetes

Once you have been diagnosed with Diabetes then a whole process clicks into place starting with a meeting with a specialist nurse.   Now while my experience of professionals has been mostly excellent this first encounter was deeply depressing. I am intelligent and more than capable of researching a subject so I went into the appointment looking to try and reverse the condition by radical changes in diet and life style.   Instead of supporting that I was patronised and in effect told I was on a road to steady decline ending with...

Both iconic and ironic

By Dave Snowden  ·  November 28, 2013  ·  Diabetes

This is the first of three blog posts I have been asked to write reflecting on the period from April this year when I was told I had type II Diabetes.  Since then I have lost 10" around my waist, lost 25kg and got my fitness back to a level I last experienced in the 1970s.  By the time I had my first follow up blood tests at the start of July all blood levels were normal, including a reversal of a long standing high cholesterol problem.  I've got another 2" and 10kg to go and have now run out of old clothes saved so I having to buy...

An old friend rediscovered

By Dave Snowden  ·  September 2, 2013  ·  Walks & Bike rides, Diabetes

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that any iPod or Car Music collection will have a copy of Queen's greatest hits.  I have remember that as a running gag in a book or radio show and it is truth at least in my experience.   I have one and one of my favourites is Bicycle Race with that wonderful line "I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike, I want to ride it where I like".  This is a rather convoluted way of saying that you are not going to get the Simple Domain model today, tomorrow probably.  This is a reflection on...

To explain but not excuse

By Dave Snowden  ·  July 14, 2013  ·  Diabetes

I had a whole series of blog posts mapped out to fill in the month gap since my last posting but there just hasn't been the time.  So while I will put in some backfill ones for the record I resolved on arrival early this morning in Singapore that I need to just write something every day rather than have grand plans.   Life is busy at the moment anyway and my resolution to put my health first for a change impacts on time. I'm also still going through the assessment process.  So far the eyes are OK, next up a full set of bloods to see...
