Common confusions on SenseMaker®

By Dave Snowden  ·  July 8, 2014  ·  SenseMaker®, Conference blogs

An odd sort of day which started with my getting up before 0400 to make the 0601 train the Bonn and finished with me winning a bidding war on eBay auction with my last bid while watching the German humiliation of Brazil in a bar in the centre of town.  The good Burghers of Bonn  were remarkably undemonstrative from the start which was a bit surprising.

In between I gave a presentation about the use of narrative in development work which was, in my humble opinion, one of the better summaries I have done but I may regret some of the...

Summer School slides and links

By Dave Snowden  ·  July 4, 2014  ·  Conference blogs

Final day of the Summer School in Copenhagen and I had two sessions to run.  The first over three hours in the morning covered complexity, safe-to-fail interventions followed by a shorted presentation in the afternoon where I picked up on Cynefin and the complex and chaotic domain models.    The latter was a little rushed given I had half an hour!  The slides for both are now published for those looking for them.  For those who want more background this post is a summary with links to all the domain models.  I need to update it a...

An interesting first day at the Summer Institute; we started with a Danish song about love and followed that with the normal talk with someone you don't know exercise.  Now I am never wild about singing songs other than it Rugby matches, ideally in Welsh.  It reminds me of the day I discovered there was still an official IBM song book!  Thankfully we were no longer required to sing them with gymnastic exercises early in the morning although it came close at times.

However I lived through the experience and the get to know you...

Personalised Health Care

By Dave Snowden  ·  October 2, 2013  ·  Conference blogs

So today was the big day here in Ohio.  I was the opening keynote and I had to get across the key theory behind the work we are doing here on health and well being as well as the practice.  Given a variety of circumstances I couldn't get together with my partner in crime design here Ann Pendleton-Julian.  We had an intensive meeting and I then retreated to my room with half an hour to put together the slides and get them onto the conference computer.  Half an hour later after the introduction I was on my feet with 50 minutes ahed of...
