The place of belonging

By Dave Snowden  ·  January 31, 2013  ·  Reflections

I was thinking a lot about identity today.  I'm at Bangor University, running a whole day seminar for the Welsh Audit Office.  Its a repeat of the successful Cardiff event last year.  I grew up in North Wales from the age of five to when I left for University at eighteen.  But we were taken back to Cardiff several times a year so that we knew we were South Welsh at heart.  The two identities were very different.  The one industrial, internationalist and english speaking; the other rural, nationalist and welsh speaking.  That...

Your privilege to fly with them

By Dave Snowden  ·  January 30, 2013  ·  Polemic

Ironically given my earlier blog about Graciousness, I was the recepient of the opposite this morning on arrival at Heathrow.   I had fly out to Singapore for three days using air miles.  The oddity of booking air miles saw me fly out via Tokyo and back via Frankfurt.  The air crew were fine on all flights, as were the lounge staff in both transit airports.  The problem was BA lounge staff at Terminal 5.

Good functional design

By Dave Snowden  ·  January 27, 2013  ·  Great places

The trouble with day one of an overseas trip with an eight hour time difference is that you sleep well on arrival and know that the second night will be truly terrible.  So I am trying to do as much as I can today which regrettably means confining myself to the hotel room and chaining myself to my macbook pro for the whole day.  Well other than a couple of meetings with members of the team in local coffee shops.  I'm staying as ever in the IBIS Bencoolen.   Now from the outside this is just a concrete block, but its to my mind one...
