Environment, Ecology and The Point?

By Phil Boas  ·  November 30, 2009  ·

I notice as I read other people’s blogs, that I am essentially an antisocial creature, not necessarily a total disadvantage in my job, but not encouraging for normally extraverted or social creatures. So, on the subject of the Environment the capital ‘E’ type, I have recently been distracted by the political gibberish associated with the Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme and have begun to wonder how totally isolated I may have become.
It seems to me that Homo sapiens are just another prolific species inhabiting the planet....

About Sensemaker and following Chris’ comment on the 28th

By Phil Boas  ·  November 29, 2009  ·

One of the experiences we have had with narrative capture involves the process of persuading people to actually go into a web site and tell a story, a fragment, a small narrative piece. I know Dave always comes up with a whole swag of ways to capture the data, but in practice I have found it very difficult to actually get people to tell their story.

The Marriott revisted (sic) & the value of persistence

By Dave Snowden  ·  November 29, 2009  ·  Polemic

Screen shot 2009-11-29 at 08.32.20.png An interesting supplement to my earlier post on the Marriott in San Jose and a related issue with Vodafone. Readers will remember that I failed to get loyalty card credit for my recent stay, and that raising the issue with Marriott centrally produced a poor and negative response. PB270029.JPG I'm in the lounge at Terminal 1 of Changi Airport waiting to be called for the delayed QF31, my first flight on the A380. I'll make it back in time to get down to Cardiff for Wales v Australia on Saturday. I took this photo from my hotel balcony this morning. Its the first hotel I ever stayed at in Singapore over a decade ago. I was out to speak at a conference on knowledge management for IPQC. I let the local IBM people know I was coming but I was ignored so I had a whole week to myself bar the two days of the conference. Back then...

Good food and good company

By Dave Snowden  ·  November 27, 2009  ·  Trivia

PB260023_2.JPG With KM Asia over for another year I went out for dinner with Patrick Lambe and Graham Durant-Law. Both old friends from the knowledge management world. We went to the Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant on Robertson Quay. Now this is one of favorite places to eat in a city that must rank in the top three food capitols of the world. Its an unpretentious place, formica tables and ordinary chairs with an outside area facing the river. The dish pictured is their signature dish, ribs that you take from the bone and wrap into the dough balls...
